According to the executive regulations of Third Plan Rules regarding the development of criteria and standards for various industries by the Fuel Conservation Company, in the agricultural sector, a project was carried out entitled “study, research and development of fuel consumption criteria in commercial greenhouse units”. This project has included various phases in which energy consumption (fuel) indicators determined in this sector for the first time. Therefore, according to the project methodology, the statistics and information from greenhouses in the country including the total number of greenhouses, energy consumption, product type, production, climatic conditions, greenhouse equipment in the regions, such as the Agricultural Organization, The Ministry of Oil, the Ministry of Energy and the Statistics Organization of Iran were collected. the next phase includes some information about the greenhouse, energy consumption, new technologies and modern equipment of leading countries, such as the Netherlands, Spain, etc. All information compared with other phases and field information results. Thus, international standards for greenhouses, such as DIN, BS and ASAE were examined and compared to other relevant organizations such as FAO. In the next phase, using the results of library studies, some questionnaires were prepared for field studies of 400 greenhouses. Finally, the energy consumption in different climates of the country was studied. The results of field studies and their statistical analysis lead to developing energy consumption standards in greenhouses. The results of field studies and their statistical analysis were used to develop energy consumption standards in greenhouses. The results not only determine the current situation of energy consumption in greenhouses in the country, but also provide a good picture of the optimal situation of energy consumption in this sector. Finally, according to the obtained information and technical and economic feasibility, a standard entitled “Commercial greenhouses – a measure of energy consumption in production processes” was developed.
